Don't worry, you're not alone, as these pocket-sized computers boast many hundreds of features, with several more added in the recent release of the iOS 13 mobile operating system. New texts on the way? Press and hold the button and you will activate the zoom dial. To quickly take video, tap and hold on the shutter button. The video will stay in the same frame as the photo like Snapchatbut if you want to keep recording the video, swipe right on the shutter to lock it into video recording mode.
Activate the front-facing camera, swipe left or right over to the Slo-mo option and tap the red Record button. The Photos app in iOS 13 gives you even more control over editing, including access to the same video editing tools as for photos: crop, rotate, apply filters, and more.
New iPhone? No thanks: These older-model 5S owners don't need or want one. Pixel 4 review: Google's latest smartphone is very good but not great. Well, sort of. Tap it to go to your home screen when inside an app or websiteopen the Control Center or Notification Center, lock your screen, restart your device, summon Siri, or use multi-finger gestures.
If your car has GPS maps on the dashboard, this feature may be familiar. If you like, tap to enable Automatic if you'd like to automatically switch between the dark and light theme. Those who own a pricier iPhone 11 Pro get a fast watt 18W charger in the box, but those who buy a regular iPhone 11 do not, unfortunately.
But there's no reason, iPhone 11 owners need to be stuck with a slower 5W charger. Or go with a third-party solution from a company like Anker, for less. If you still struggle to use the virtual on-screen keyboardiPhone 11 ships with a swipe option — similar to third-party apps SwiftKey or Gboard and a functionality on Samsung phones for years — that allows you to simply swipe your finger on the letters on the keyboard to form words without lifting.
After a short while, you might find yourself whizzing through sentences. Simply press and hold on the keyboard and the cursor will automatically become a mouse-like trackpad. Now keep your finger or thumb on the screen and drag around the cursor to reach the part of text that you want to tweak — or to highlight text, just press a little harder while continuing to slide your finger — and then let go for the keyboard to return. If Siri says something wrong, just tell her.
First, put your game controller into pairing mode. On an Xbox controller, hold the pairing button on the back until the front light begins flashing quickly. Now open Settings on your iPhone, select Bluetooth, and turn it to On.

Email him or subscribe to his Tech It Out podcast at www. The navigation could not be loaded. All it takes is a smartphone with a light, three pieces of small tape and two sharpies. One blue, one purple. Take the first piece of tape, put it over the camera flash on the back of your phone. Color that tape blue. Repeat this step again. After you've put both layers of tape onto the flash or light of your camera, put the third and final layer on top of that one.
This is where you pull out your purple Sharpie and paint that sucker in. Did you use this instructable in your classroom? Add a Teacher Note to share how you incorporated it into your lesson. If so them this will work very well. Thank You for posting this hack. I needed a cheap and easy solution to see which of my on hand materials would react under uv. This worked a treat, Thanks again. I made this, I might've done it wrong because it didn't work. At all. Your not making a blacklight.
A blacklight is a UV-A bulb. No cell can produce uv light. Your just making the led camera light cobalt. Blue light will make things fluoresce a little but, no where near what uv-a, uv-b, or uv-c bulb will. It's a waste of time. Just go buy a real blacklight blue UV-A light about 24 inches long.
There like 15 bucks. You are basically making a "Wood's Glass" filter just like the glass on an incandescent Black Light, light bulb. It might work but not much power will be emitted at the ultraviolet wavelength from most white LEDs used for cell phone flashes. You need energy in the nm to nm wavelengths and most will be in the nm to nm. I'm going to give it a try, I'm betting finding the exact right the markers will make a pretty huge difference.
Saw this on Facebook and doubted its validity, but I researched it anyways. The graph below shows the emissions of a White LED used in a smartphone. Hence no UV. Second, all that plastic tape would absorb UV light if there were any. Lastly, the odds of creating a UV bandpass filter with sharpies and scotch tape, pretty much don't exist.
Not being mean, just stating the facts. The video "proof" was probably shot with a true UV lamp as the light source. This is not a "black light". What you know as "black light" is ultraviolet light, which is unproducable with a standard camera flash. These operate within the visible light spectrum, which is far too low to emit UV.
In addition to this, you are filtering out the blue band of the spectrum, not the violet which would at the very least be closer. There are numerous cases when mobile phone users complain of headaches, dizziness and even a sudden onset of fatigue after long lasting cell phone calls.
Nowadays, with the exponential growth of smartphone popularity, radio frequency exposure went up a notch, because of the combination of multiple transmissions. Besides regular electromagnetic wave bombarding caused by the carrier voice signal, exposure is amplified by cellular data network connection, WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth emitters and GPS tracking.
When adding that many specialists claim that those limits are outdated because they where set decades ago, when human RF exposure was considerably lower, the importance of common sense safety measures stands out! Researches confirm that smartphone radiation is: — exponentially reduced when distance between user and generator increases; — obviously lowered the shorter the duration of the exposure; — considerably diminished when using 3rd party accessories for protection.
So, here is the best compilation of tips that help you lower iPhone radiation exposure: 1. The limit is 1. A useful trick is to set volume levels to maximum and hold the device, 2 or 3 inches 5 — 10 centimeters away from your ear. As mentioned above, cell phone radiation decreases exponentially when distance between phone and body is increased. Every inch counts! Automatic Speaker Mode A clever trick that you have to use! This allows you to hold your iOS device at a considerable distance from your body and still have a quality voice call.Abb t8 breaker
This trick automatically enables Speaker mode when engaging a call! Do mind, that using this tip in bathrooms, staircase or any other locations that create echo will affect the quality of your conversation. Use Headphones Another good option for keeping your iPhone away from your head is to use headphones. You can opt for the original Apple EarPods with remote and microphone or purchase any other headphones that you fancy.
However, this still allows you to keep a comfortable distance of at least 3 feet 1 metersfrom your radiating device.
Apple CarPlay When driving your car, definitely use Apple Car Play or any other Bluetooth interface that allows you to connect your iPhone with your car.
Your device can be placed away from your body. Brief Calls If none of the above tips can be applied, your next option to lower radiation exposure is to shorten the duration of your calls. Try to be as brief as possible and maintain a call duration of under a minute. To buy yourself a few extra seconds hold your iPhone in your hand while the call is dialed and bring it up to your ear only when your call is answered. The best way to fight the world's latest cause for panic — coronavirus — is by washing our damn hands.
There's another strategy that could be handy for protecting ourselves, too: sanitizing our phones so we don't accidentally compromise the benefits of hand washing. It's possible to sanitize your smartphone with alcohol wipes.
However, human error and damage to the phone's surface make the slightly higher tech option of cleaning your phone with UV light a good way to go, too, depending on the virus or bacteria you're worried about. Water droplet-borne germs spread viruses like the cold, flu, and coronavirus by entering through our mouth, nose, and eyes. When we're exposed to someone's sneeze or cough, either directly grossor by touching something they might have touched think: a subway polewe're in danger of getting sick by touching our own faces.
Germs on our hands are only dangerous because of how often we touch our faces, so hand washing is effective at protecting against getting sick and spreading illness. But considering that studies show that we pick up our phones hundreds of times a day, we could be undermining our best hand washing efforts. By checking Instagram or sending a text — say, after we've washed our hands, but before we pick up a burger — we could be putting those germs lurking on our devices right in our pie holes.
UCLA's Klausner sees the potential for smartphones to play a role in disease transmission, but is not especially worried. He says it's not clear that germs left on smartphone surfaces transmit diseases with the same consistency as air and water-borne germs do. Additionally, he says the contagiousness of germs on a surface "drops dramatically" after a couple of hours. So how to make sure that, in addition to regular hand washing, our swiping addiction doesn't get the best of your immune system?
First of all, take preventive measures with your phone the same way you would with your body. Klausner recommended that during times of heightened potential for infection, don't share your phone, and definitely don't hand your phone to a sick person. If you want to take phone hygiene a step further, there are a few ways you can proactively sanitize your phone. One option is UV light treatments, like those provided by PhoneSoap. These expose your phone to UV rays, whether with a wand or something that encases the whole thing — sort of like a tanning bed for your iPhone.
The devices then send light waves at the phone's surface, which disrupts the DNA and prevents it from multiplying and spreading. According to an MIT studyalcohol wipes are effective for fighting bacteria, and UV light can be effective under the right circumstances, depending on the strength of the UV and certain other factors.DIY IPhone Blacklight INCREDIBLE vs. incrediBULL #1
Presently, it's unclear how effective UV light would be with the new coronavirus because it hasn't been studied yet. PhoneSoap says it can neutralize germs that transmit the common cold or flu, and work on other pathogens. With respect to novel coronavirus, PhoneSoap said that the virus' characteristics are similar to one type of flu virus that it does fight off. But they did not want to overstate the product's capabilities. Some phone makers advise against using wipes because they can damage protective films on the phone's surface.
Additionally, PhoneSoap's LaPorte pointed out that sometimes wiping your phone yourself is not adequate because the treatment might not be equally distributed, or last for a long enough time to actually kill the bacterial.
If you do want to go the UV route, there are options from several vendorsall with different bells and whistles. PhoneSoap makes a few different modelssome meant for use on the go, some to be stored at home. LaPorte recommends cleaning your phone every night, just like you would charge it every night. But you can also step up your game if you're somewhere where you feel more at risk.3208 cat 435 hp for sale
Klausner pointed out that there is no official recommendation for regular phone decontamination or cleaning. But as public officials are still trying to get a handle on basic information and testing for coronavirus, UV light phone cleaning could be one additional futuristic tool in your pocket. EST: This article has been updated to clarify the likelihood of UV light treatments protecting against coronavirus based on previous scientific research.

They used to be necessary for film photography, but now most photographers use them to protect their lenses. A UV filter blocks UV light as it enters the lens.
Think of it as sunscreen for your camera. This was especially common if you were shooting somewhere there was a lot of UV light, like on a really sunny day or at high altitude. You can see it in this polaroid by MoominSean on Flickr. Steve Perry from Backcountry Gallery drop tested a load of different lens filters and lenses and what he found was that the filters added minimal, if any, protection.
Also, if a lens was hit hard enough that the front element was damaged, there was normally large amounts of internal damage too. Even in the few cases where the UV filter might have protected the front element, the lens was dead anyway.German series
This all means that if you drop your lens with a UV filter and the filter breaks but not the lens, all you probably did was break a filter. The lens would have been fine either way.
UV filters block a small percentage between 0. Because of how the light interacts with your filter, this reduces the sharpness and contrast of your images very slightly. In the image above, you can see some artifacts caused by the UV filter and the lens flare. It really depends. The best advice I can give you is:. The Best Tech Newsletter Anywhere. Since we launched inour articles have been read more than 1 billion times.Ultra violet light is not part of the visible light spectrum so you cannot actually see it.
You need a dark room to see these reflections. The glowing effect will fade, when you bring normal light into the room you are working or partying in. This presents a photography challenge as there will be very little light for you and the camera to work with. If you do not have a DSLR camera available and need to take photos on a phone we suggest you try a few different models to see whose phone works best. The iPhone 8 is due out soon though, so that may change things as the iPhone camera is being upgraded, but the point is try a few different phones to see which one picks up the color the best in a dark space.
The photo below gives an example of a menu that you may find on your camera. You will need to set it to manual mode to adjust these settings explained below. You will need to play around with this setting though as it can reduce the quality of your images if you set it too high. Shutter speed controls the amount of time the shutter remains open when taking a photo.
The longer the shutter remains open the more light the camera can get and the clearer your picture will be. You should find that when using a long shutter speed you don't have to use quite as high an ISO number so the image quality will be better. Have some fun with it and see what you end up with. You can either have the subject moving or move your hand as you take the pictures.
It is measured with an F number. If you want the subjects in the front of your image to be clear but you are not so worried about the background you would use a large aperture. A large F number on your camera causes small aperture and creates a shallow depth of field. If you want the background in the picture to be clear you are best to use a small aperture.
To create more depth of field a clearer background you will need more light so you may have to increase your ISO number. This is a smart feature that adjusts the three exposure elements listed above for you simultaneously. It will adjust the ISO and shutter speed together to prevent you from selecting a setting that will make the camera too shaky to hold in your hand.
If you play around with this setting you may find you get the results you are looking for without needing to adjust the elements individually. Having a black light party?Black lights come in all shapes and sizes, and they're useful in a variety of ways. They can help you spot fake currency, urine stains, interesting rocksand deadly scorpionsand they can even help you view cool fluorescent artwork.
Most black lights work using a filter or coating over the bulb that filters out most of the visible light and produces mostly long-wave ultraviolet UVA light. Filters that do it create a dim violet glow, while coated bulbs product blue color. With a black light, you can see fluorescence, the radiating glow emitted by certain substances when exposed to ultraviolet light.
While no smartphone is technically capable of emitting UV light currently, you can mimic the effect of a black light using your phone's LED flash, a few markers, and some transparent tape. It won't work as well as a commercial LED black lightbut if you're just looking to show off some cool fluorescent art or mutant-looking plantsit'll definitely do the trick.
Note: Black lights cannot help you see germs, bacteria, viruses, or proteins themselves.
They can only highlight fluids and surfaces that contain fluorescence or fluorescent proteins. Whether those substances contain bacteria, viruses, or proteins is impossible to guess without proper lab gear such as a transmission electron or scanning electron microscopes.
Some at-home microscopes can view bacteria at x or more, but viruses and proteins require higher magnification.
The project can be be done in seconds if you have all of the materials in front of you. It's that easy. And if you don't plan on taking any photos or videos with your device's camera, then feel free to tape over that part also — if you're afraid of getting ink on your camera lens. The writing on the paper, in my case, yellow, will come to life thanks to your brand new DIY black light, giving it a prominent look in complete darkness.
Depending on the type of highlighter you use, your results will vary. Below are several examples, each from different highlighters, under my makeshift black light. If you want to take photos with the black light on, just make sure that you don't tape over the camera lens or lenses like I did in my video up topor you'll have a pretty blurry picture. Likewise for videos, though, you'll also want to keep tape off of your microphone, too. Want to help support Gadget Hacks and get a great deal on some sweet new tech?
